As the old generation of leaders leave Media Club, the new leaders rise in power. Although I am not an EXCO member, I still help out in events. And when I do, I observe that the juniors are often overly reliant on the seniors. A question pops up in my head: What will happen if the upper secondary members, who make up the majority of the CCA, leave?
As a trainer and instructor, I can see the effectiveness of Friday training and how their skills really improved a lot compared to the start of the year. Despite this, some of them, especially the Secondary 1s, are still unclear of the equipment and their functions.
I went to observe part of the Friday training session today. It was AV equipment training, as usual. Loki, Rhys and Jia Le were testing the Sec 1s on what they had learnt before. It was relieving to see a new group of instructors forming but what was more fascinating was that most of the juniors seem to understand what was going on.
At the start of this year, Inge and Sean were worrying about the AV, videography and photography skills of this club. With the Sec 3 instructors, we gave them one less thing to worry about, and Ms Dayana also helped enlighten the load on photography.
On a side note, during the 76th Anniversary of the school, when Inge saw a Sec 1 doing videography duty, she actually asked," Are you really comfortable with a lower secondary doing (videography) duty by himself?"
I can totally understand why she asked this question as we have yet to solve the problem with their videography skills. More work and effort should be invested in this area to rectify the problem.
Hence, Friday training in Semester 2 will consist of a lot of videography training. Hopefully, this will solve the issue somewhat.
We do not know what lies ahead in the future but what we can do now is to make sure this club is on the right track before we leave.
