It is April-ish May, as usual, that the thunder comes rolling in, not like a disaster but like a transition into a stormier age. Every year a new committee steps up, they will face the same rocky cliffs and raging seas, just like the so-many generations before them. And like the so-many seniors before me and Sean, we try in all our capacity to make the ride smoother. Everyone in the same position experiences the same challenges, albeit certain variations. We have faith, however, that this year, our chosen executive committee would truly, and finally, bring our CCA to a completely new level. And that is when me and Sean would know our work is done.

On the 26th of March 2015, Chung Cheng High came down the the Bedok Stadium to participate for the 35th year in the annual sports meet. Ngee Ann Secondary School, Dunman High School, and Temasek Secondary School were in attendance as usual, lining up along the seats in neat rows.
This year, the Media Club sent six people to cover the sports meet for the first time. | Photographers | - Joei Foo - Athena Ng - Caden Cheong - Le-anne Cheong - Inge Shi - Sean Wee With all the mountain-load of information about this wire and that connector, I have compiled a summary of all the cables you need to know, and some other important aspects of the AV equipment. Wanna be the top scorer for the next test? Read this.
The Media Club is back on duty again on 1st of March!
The event started at 8.00 am, and ended at 1.00 pm. A week after the Chinese New Year celebrations, the school hosted the annual alumni reunion in the School Hall. Our Media Club alumni Chon Wey was MC for the event with other fellow alumnis of Chung Cheng Main. Another Media Club alumni also came by and visited us, Zheng Wei. These two graduated seniors took their O'Levels in 2012, and took their A'Levels last year. Their results were meant to be released the day after this event, so good luck, guys! The highlight of this event, for me and pretty much everybody, was the karaoke session. We connected a TV from the stage to the projector so that the duo singers could read off the lyrics from the small TV screen and the audience could see it at the back. This event is actually Darren's first, and Matthias' second. Praise for Darren for being really proactive and helpful! Mrs Tan Theng May had been our VP for as long as I could remember, and she was always nice. The MOE had chosen her to be part of a leadership course that may or may not place her in a different school in the end. Considering how much she cried at her farewell ceremony, I would think she wants to be back at Chung Cheng again. It really is a waste, since she started teaching chemistry this year and she is really good at it, and even set the chemistry common test paper last week. It is sad that with her departure, our trio of vice-principals would be reduced to only two, and we would lose the wonderful teacher, Mrs Tan.
On behalf of the Media Club, we would like to thank Mrs Tan for her role in Chung Cheng High School (Main), and wish her all the best for the future! The ceremony was a 1-hour long event with one photographer, Jian Wei. It took place in the Grand Auditorium, during the morning assembly of Friday, the last day of Common Test week. A day after the girls' basketball match, it was the boys' turn.
Sadly, our team lost at 74 - 40 to Dunman Secondary School. They now place second in the East Zone B-Division Boys Basketball. For more information, refer to this Redsports article. This event was covered by three photographers: Sean Loke, Lim Jia Le and Hoe Jian Wei. Sean Wee was on the videocam and in charge. On a more personal note, I did not attend this event due to tuition. It was held after school on a Tuesday. The photographers arrived late for the jump ball. So this article will be focused on photography techniques. Several problems encountered by the photographers are the shooting angles, camera settings, intended subject, and type of pictures. The Media Club would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the girls basketball team, for making it so far and bringing pride and victory to our school yesterday at Anglican High School to get 3rd place in the East Zone B-Division Girls Basketball. They won 36-39 against Dunman High School in an amazing teamplay yesterday! Despite the number of fouls which gave the opposing team a total of nine free-throws, our team still managed to win by a 3-point margin. The last quarter was electrified with tension and excitement as we witness the fast-paced game. In the last few seconds, Dunman High tried a goal shot, of which if the ball went in would tie the two schools, but failed to score, and victory went to our girls team!

There are a few reasons I feel I need to clarify for the start-up of this blog. One, this reduces the shroud of secrecy we have about the CCA, and make our activities more transparent to everyone out there, be it stalkers or wannabe members. Two, it would be a record of what our CCA is up to and might be a useful resource for future generations to come. I am very new to this blog-thing, but I will do my best to offer as accurate a description as possible of events, and in the case that I am unable to do so, I will invite other members for their input. Everyone has limits, and I, of course, am a humble writer who might not be able to achieve perfect English as there is no proofreader or editor other than yours truly. For any mistake, whether in grammar, spelling or concept, I apologise in advance. But, as a first post, I would like to describe Media Club, and one can say this is the abridged history of our dearest Media Club, as it may be lacking information in some aspects that I would be glad to provide were you to ask. If school was a world onto its own, then my family would be the Media Club. And this would be the first entry of many to come of the family tree. The AVA is the backbone of events. Without us, events will break down. Now, this is a famous quote, repeated so frequently throughout the two generations of leaders I have seen, and that I myself have repeated, that I no longer know who started it. It could have been former Chairperson Toh Hong Chew (year 2011-2012) who said it, but then again I was but a toddler when he ruled the AVA Club so I wouldn't know.
2015 Chinese New Year was very weird, in my opinion. It is very out of place, in the years we have celebrated Chinese New Year (CNY). Previously, Cross Country was a wholly separate event from CNY, and for some mysterious reason out of my grasp, the two became Cross Country X Chinese New Year. Normally, for celebrations of the latter, we would have 2 or 3 hours of performances, videos and such, after an hour or two of hamper wrapping, tossing the yusheng and similar festive activities. Cross Country, on the other hand, would be held in the East Coast Park with a scenic route and far more spacious running paths than the Geylang River In 2013, Bong led the Infocomm Club to create a CNY video in a very small time frame with videos and pictures taken less than an hour before. We had planned an exactly the same stint, but filming the Cross Country instead. Sadly, the school decided to cancel this last minute and we had some urgent rearrangement of duties, but all in all it turned out really well! |
